Outstanding individuals who live the mission of the Church in their everyday lives.

You are an outstanding individual who lives the mission of the Church in your everyday life. You are a model for others, someone who is always ready to do what you can for those in need. By your actions, you show how it is possible to live the mission of the Church every day of our lives.

You are involved with various programs and ministries of your parish, such as lectorship, eucharistic ministry, RCIA, CCD/Religious Education classes. Your volunteer work extends beyond the parish community and includes service at St. Vincent de Paul Society food pantries or shelters, hospitals or nursing homes. You regularly donate funds to assist people in need in this country and abroad through Catholic Relief Services and other agencies both locally and globally — not just once but all year long!

Individuals who devote themselves to the needs of others as servants and leaders.

Those who devote themselves to the needs of others as servants and leaders are often nominated for this category. This award is not limited to one who has been a leader in the Church community. The nominee should be someone who has demonstrated concern for others by promoting their welfare, happiness and well-being through their actions and words.

People who inspire others through their examples.

Good leaders can be found in all walks of life, and the Sacred Heart Awards is proud to recognize people who set an example through their leadership and inspire others to be the best version of themselves.

These leaders are dedicated not only in what they do but also how they do it, often taking into account the feelings, needs, and wants of those around them. They display compassion for all people, showing kindness, acceptance, tolerance and understanding for those who are different from them.

They care about other people’s success as much as their own; they are good listeners who take time out from their busy schedules to listen intently when others need someone to talk to. They show encouragement by believing in your ability—even when you don’t believe in yourself—and help you realize your full potential.

Individuals who respect and revere the sacredness of the human person through the dignity of work.

  • The dignity of work and the rights of workers

Labor is not a commodity; it is the highest expression of human activity, for through work man not only transforms nature and adapts it to his own needs but he also achieves fulfillment as a human being.

  • The right to private property

Rerum Novarum teaches that every person has a right to private property—property that is more than the things he or she possesses. It includes one’s personal talents and skills, one’s labor, and even one’s reputation.
