Scholarships are available for athletes. The athletic scholarship may be a partial or full coverage of tuition fees and other college expenses, depending on the school’s policy, the student-athlete’s qualifications, and the sport involved. To qualify for an athletic scholarship, you will generally have to demonstrate your skills in your chosen sport to a coach at that school. Some scholarships are available for minorities. Minority scholarships are often intended to encourage and promote equal treatment in education and employment by providing financial support for disadvantaged members of society who wish to further their education or career prospects. Scholarship funds can be awarded by the government or private institutions such as businesses, foundations or charities. Other minority scholarships may be offered through professional associations or colleges themselves specifically targeted at minorities (Asian-American, Hispanic/Latino American etc.).

Students with disabilities have access to many resources designed to help them finance their postsecondary education including disability specific grants and federal student aid programs like Pell Grants and work-study programs as well as vocational rehabilitation services provided by each state’s Vocational Rehabilitation Agency (VRA). In addition, students with disabilities can also apply for general college scholarships like those offered by local community organizations, churches and private foundations as well as national scholarship competitions based on merit. Some Scholarship Programs May Be Need Based Scholarships based on financial need – sometimes called need-based grants – determine eligibility using a student’s Expected Family Contribution (EFC), which is determined using a formula established by Congress, dividing financial responsibility between families and government sources of aid including federal/state governments and colleges themselves through institutional funding (grants from the school rather than loans). This EFC calculation allows schools awarding federal aid money from Title IV programs like Stafford Loans determine how much aid a family needs before determining how much aid they can give out

International students are eligible for on-campus jobs.

If you are an international student at SAU, there are many jobs available. You can choose to work up to 20 hours a week or less. Make sure you check with your Academic Advisor to make sure a job will not interfere with your studies. In the past, we have had students work in concession stands during basketball games and baseball games, wash cars on campus, tutor other students and serve as reading buddies in area elementary schools. Students can earn money to pay for school expenses and gain valuable working experience.

Pell Grants are available to low income undergraduate students from the US government.

• Pell Grants are federally funded awards to help low-income undergraduate students pay for college. They’re need-based, meaning students may qualify for Pell Grants based on their family income.
• Unlike loans, grants don’t need to be repaid, which makes them a great option for students who might not otherwise be able to afford college.
• The amount you can receive depends on your school’s cost of attendance (COA), your status as a full-time or part-time student, and whether you plan to attend school for a full academic year or less. Your COA includes tuition and fees, books and supplies, room and board (if you live on campus) and other costs like transportation. The maximum Pell Grant award is $6195 for the 2019–20 year (July 1, 2019 through June 30, 2020).

Outside scholarships are administered by a third party (not the university), so you will need to contact that party directly regarding the application process, deadlines, etc. Many outside scholarships have specific requirements based on major, grade point average, or other criteria beyond financial need or academic merit.

Most outside scholarships do not cover tuition or fees, but are awarded as stipends that may be used for living expenses or other purposes at the student’s discretion. Federal Work-Study funding is available for all domestic students and some international students.

You may apply for Federal Work-Study (FWS) funding if you are a U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen, enrolled at least part time in a degree-seeking program, and demonstrate financial need as determined by your FAFSA.

Once approved for work-study, you will be able to look for part-time jobs on campus that match your skills and interests.
