They analyzed data from over 2 million students who attended all types of schools across the country, including community colleges and for-profit institutions. The rankings were based on factors like job placement rate, graduation rate (including transfer rates), average starting salary for graduates, cost per student per year, default rate on student loans after graduation (i.e., how many people default on their loans), alumni participation in community service activities such as volunteerism or political activity (i.e., whether they actually went out into the world and did something useful with their education).
