Shands has been a crucial part of our community since 1967 when it first opened its doors as a teaching hospital affiliated with the University of Florida College of Medicine to provide healthcare services to North Central Florida residents, visitors and other communities throughout North America.

Despite being less than an hour away from several major cities such as Jacksonville and Orlando (and being within two hours of Tampa), Shands often escapes notice by people outside our area due to its unique focus on providing specialized care for local residents rather than attracting patients from around the country or world—which has historically made it more difficult to achieve recognition on lists like these ones from U.S News & World Report or other publications that focus on quality metrics across all hospitals nationwide versus just those within close proximity (i..e., those located within 50 miles).

A teaching hospital is a medical institution that trains medical students and residents, and offers clinical services to patients. They are closely affiliated with a medical school. A research hospital is a medical institution that performs research as well as offering clinical services to patients. Shands Hospital at the University of Florida is both a teaching hospital and a research hospital, which means there are opportunities for students interested in either specialty field to gain experience here.

Shands Hospital is an excellent facility with a variety of services. The quality of care provided by the staff is wonderful, and there are many specialty programs available for children and adults who may need extra support in order to live their best life possible. The hospital has been around since 1951 when Dr. Clarence J Shands opened his first clinic in Jacksonville Florida. Today there are multiple locations throughout Florida including Gainesville where I visited during my recent trip there to see what all the fuss was about
