The New Jersey Board of Nursing protects the public’s health and safety by providing guidance for, and regulation of, entry into the profession, nursing education and continuing safe practice.

The Board seeks to preserve the integrity of nursing practice through enforcement of laws that govern nursing practice. The Board also seeks to educate nurses about their responsibility as professionals to maintain competency in their areas of specialty through ongoing learning experiences designed to keep them current with advances in clinical knowledge and technology.

The Board’s functions are delegated to its Executive Director, who is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the agency. The Executive Director reports directly to the Board Chairperson.

The public members serve four year terms; two public member terms expire each year. The professional nurse members serve three year terms; one third (1/3) of their number rotate off annually on a staggered basis.
