1 Accreditation
Accreditation is a voluntary process through which institutions of higher education seek to ensure that their academic offerings meet the standards of quality established by an accrediting agency. The United States Department of Education recognizes more than 60 accrediting agencies, which are private, non-governmental organizations.
Accreditation is not required for colleges and universities to operate in the U.S., but it provides several benefits to students and schools. For instance, employers often prefer graduates from accredited colleges and universities because they have been reviewed by independent experts who determine if the institution has met certain educational standards.
