When you go to the consulate, you need to bring a few things with you. These include:

• Proof of enrollment in a German university
• An up-to-date passport
• A signed and completed application form for your visa (in duplicate)
• One passport photograph taken in the past six months

Keep in mind that this list is not exhaustive, and if you have any questions about what to bring, it’s best to contact the German consulate directly. Additionally, some consulates may ask for additional proof of status as a student or for evidence of your financial resources.

If you have an account, you should bring along bank statements to prove that you have access to funds.

Proof can take many forms: if your parents will be supporting you and are able to provide a written declaration to that effect, then this is sufficient—but only if it is written by hand and signed by them!

All international students in Germany must have health insurance coverage. Your health insurance policy must be valid for the duration of your stay in Germany. The policy must provide coverage for all medical expenses in Germany, including hospital stays and emergency treatment. You can choose between private or public health insurance providers, but your health insurance policy has to comply with the German statutory requirements (that is: it has to cover the following minimum benefits).

Proof of housing is a document confirming that you have secured a place to live in Germany. It can be one of the following:

• An accommodation guarantee from a university or landlord.
• A rental agreement.
• A confirmation that you will be living with a relative or friend.
• A certificate from a hotel or hostel.

These are the common requirements for student visa applications to Germany

• A formal letter of admission from the German university or school where you will be studying.
• Proof that you have enough money to support yourself throughout your time as a student in Germany, which can be shown by a scholarship award or bank statements.
• Proof of health insurance coverage during your time as a student in Germany.
• A passport that is valid for at least another six months after the period of your intended stay in Germany, even if you are not yet required to show it. It must also have two blank pages available for visa stamps (one per entry).
