Chevening Scholarships

Chevening Scholarships are the UK government’s global scholarship program funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organizations. The scholarships support study at postgraduate level, for up to two years at any UK university.

Eligibility criteria:

• Be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country or territory
• Return to your country of citizenship for a minimum of two years after your award has ended
• Have an undergraduate degree that will enable you to gain entry onto a postgraduate program at a UK university. This is typically equivalent to an upper second-class 2:1 honors degree in the UK.* Have at least two years’ work experience (this may be up to five years for fellowship programs, so please refer to your country page for further details)* Apply to three different eligible UK university courses and have received an unconditional offer from one of these choices by 12 July 2021.

Marshall Scholarships

The Marshall Scholarships finance young Americans of high ability to study for a graduate degree in the United Kingdom. Up to forty Scholars are selected each year to study at graduate level at an UK institution in any field of study.

Marshall Scholars are talented, independent and wide-ranging, and their time as Scholars enhances their intellectual and personal growth. Their direct engagement with Britain through its best academic programmes contributes to their ultimate personal success. In addition, their American experience is deepened by immersion in British culture for two years – this may open up different career options upon their return home.

Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan (CSFP)

The Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan is a competitive program that funds international students from Commonwealth countries to study in the UK. The award provides full funding for master’s or PhD programs at UK schools.

This scholarship is competitive and is funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID).

Ertegun Scholarships in the Humanities

If you are an American or international student in the humanities, you might want to check out the Ertegun Scholarships in the Humanities. These postgraduate scholarships offer outstanding students of humanities subjects at Oxford the chance to study there. They provide tuition and living expenses. To be eligible, you will need a good undergraduate degree and English language skills. You should also have an offer from Oxford to read for a master’s degree in your subject by September 2020. The scholarships last for one year only, but those who do well can apply for another year of study through the Clarendon Scholarships scheme at Oxford later on. This means that scholarship holders could potentially get funding to cover all three years of their doctoral studies at Oxford.

You can apply if you are going up to start a course at Oxford University this October (2019). Check your eligibility and then submit your application by Tuesday 15 January 2020. You’ll need two referees and some research plans, as well as all sorts of other details such as how much money you’ve got coming in elsewhere (if any).

Gates Cambridge scholarships

The Gates Cambridge scholarship was established in 2000 by a donation from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to the University of Cambridge. The scholarships are awarded to outstanding applicants from countries outside the UK to pursue a full-time postgraduate degree in any subject available at the university. The scholarship is awarded across all departments at Cambridge, and is one of the most prestigious international scholarships in the world.

Rhodes Scholarships

Fulbright Awards

Fulbright Awards are prestigious merit-based scholarships for international students who wish to study in the United States. The program operates in more than 160 countries worldwide and was established by the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and other countries through educational exchange programs. In addition to tuition, a Fulbright Award covers airfare, a living stipend, health insurance, and other benefits. The Fulbright Program is highly competitive; for the 2017-2018 academic year, about 10 percent of applicants received awards.

The Fulbright Award gives international students access to scholars from around the world who provide unique perspectives on research topics that may not be available at their home schools. In addition to attending courses and conducting research or writing a master’s thesis or doctoral dissertation, grantees are encouraged to engage with their host community during their time abroad through service activities such as tutoring in an after school center or volunteering in an orphanage (which also fulfills certain visa requirements).

A scholarship can cover your tuition fee and living expenses for either one year or for the whole duration of your degree. However, note that scholarships are very competitive in nature.
