The University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR) is one of the largest universities in Arkansas and a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities. The University of Arkansas at Little Rock was founded in 1927 as the Little Rock Junior College to provide postsecondary education for area youth who had not been able to attend college. In 1959 it became a four-year institution named the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. It adopted its current name in 1997 to reflect its growing academic breadth and stature among other institutions throughout the state.

Little Rock is one of six campuses within UA System that offers bachelor’s degrees through programs developed specifically for students across Arkansas (see below).

A program that started nearly 100 years ago as an agricultural experiment station has become the nationally acclaimed UALR School of Law.

The UALR School of Law was founded in 1933 as the University of Arkansas School of Law. The school was originally established to provide legal education opportunities for students who could not afford to attend law school at a private institution. Since its inception, it has grown into the nationally acclaimed UALR School of Law that offers Juris Doctor (JD) and Master’s degrees in various areas related to law. Students can choose from several concentrations including criminal justice, environmental law, health care administration and policy, international law and business transactions.

In addition to its high rankings, graduates have gone on to become judges (including current Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch), lawyers in private practice as well as professors at colleges around Arkansas including Hendrix College and Henderson State University
