Campus Safety

UCPD is a full-service police department, with sworn police officers and civilian staff. UCPD has jurisdiction on all UC property, as well as on city streets that border campus.

The department’s mission is to protect the physical safety of the campus community and its visitors; provide professional police services in support of Berkeley’s educational, social and research missions; preserve order; prevent crime; enforce laws against conduct that threatens or endangers persons or property; provide assistance during emergencies and disasters; advise the university community about crime prevention measures; exercise community policing strategies to build trust within neighborhoods adjacent to campus.

UCPD works closely with other law enforcement agencies, including the BPD and SFPD in providing mutual aid during emergencies or major events such as Cal Day or commencement ceremonies.

Athletics

UC Berkeley is a member of the Pacific-12 Conference and sponsors 31 Division I intercollegiate sports.[1] Cal teams have won national titles in baseball (2), men’s basketball (5), cross country (12), fencing (5), football (5), men’s golf (1), crew (10), rugby union[nb 1] and women’s soccer. In addition, Cal has won 19 National Championships in NCAA team sports. Cal athletes have also won individual national championships in badminton, baseball, basketball, track and field, cross country running and water polo; several more Cal athletes have earned top 10 finishes at the NCAA Championships.
