The Huskies have won seven NCAA Division I Championships, including back-to-back titles in 2004 and 2005, under three different coaches since 1982. The University of Connecticut’s baseball program has had a long and storied history. The team was founded in 1901, and its first game was played on May 5th of that year against Yale at Soldiers Field. Four years later, the school hired Frank Bancroft as its first head coach after he led Wesleyan to two New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association titles in four seasons there. In 1908 UConn won its first conference title under Bancroft, who left after the season to coach Harvard.

Bancroft was replaced by Harry Hulme, who coached the team until 1913 when he left for Army (and eventually became college football’s all-time winningest coach). John Murphy took over as head coach before coaching at Harvard from 1915-1917 before returning; during his time away from Storrs he coached in World War I with Camp Devens near Boston where many players were stationed due to having been rejected for service overseas due to poor health or other reasons such as having dependents back home needing financial support or being too young (college age).
