The University of Dubuque women’s soccer team entered the top 25 in two national polls this week. The Spartans (6-1-1) have won five straight games since being upset by Loras College 2-1 on September 3rd. To win three consecutive road matches last weekend, extending the program’s school record winning streak to five matches. Emma Lucas ranks 65th nationally with an 0.48 GAA and 10th with an .857 save percentage (SP). Dubuque, Iowa- The University of Dubuque women’s soccer team entered the top 25 in two national polls this week.
The University of Dubuque women’s soccer team entered the top 25 in two national polls this week. The Bulldogs are ranked #15 in the nation by D3soccer.com and #16 by United Soccer Coaches, respectively. This is a big jump for the Bulldogs who were unranked prior to their 8-0 start on Saturday night against Luther College. In last year’s preseason poll, DU was picked to finish behind Luther and Wartburg College but since then have won nine straight matches including two over defending NCAA champions Wartburg (1-0) and three over Luther (2-0).
The Bulldogs are led by sophomore forward Madison Beinhauer who has 13 goals on the season with 10 assists while classmate James Wagner leads all players with six goals scored during that win streak along with three assists during that stretch as well. This week’s games will see DU travel southward where they have not fared well recently against Simpson College on September 22nd before returning home again when they host Coe College this Friday at 4:00 p..m..

Defense has been the key for the Spartans, who are allowing just over one goal per game through nine games this season. Goalkeeper Claire Rufolo has played every minute of every game thus far, earning two shutouts along the way. The senior from Bettendorf, Iowa is currently fourth in NCAA Division III with a .839 save percentage while also having made 10 saves on 21 shots faced this year during six appearances—all starts—for Dubuque College

Emma Lucas ranks 65th nationally with an 0.48 GAA and 10th with an .857 save percentage (SP). The freshman from Fairfield, Iowa has started in each of the Bulldogs’ 17 games this season and has made 47 saves on the year.
Emma is a goalkeeper for the University of Dubuque Women’s Soccer team. She was a four-year varsity letterwinner at Fairfield High School where she played for her father, Mike Lucas.

The Cougars have already won five consecutive games, extending the program’s school record winning streak to five matches. UDB’s most recent road win was a 3-0 victory at Concordia University Chicago, which also marked their third consecutive road victory.
The Cougars are currently riding an eight-game unbeaten run (6-0-2) and are one of four teams in the conference still unbeaten this season.

The Bulldogs finished their season with a 1-1 record against NCAA Division III teams and have a record of 4-11 overall.
In addition to their strong showing nationally, the Bulldogs are also ranked third in all of NCAA Division III for goals scored, averaging three per game this season.
With only five games remaining in the regular season, the Spartans have one of the toughest schedules in NCAA Division III. They play Loras College twice and then will face Carroll University twice with one being at home. If they can win these matches and make it to playoffs, they could be playing for a national championship!
