The U of I bookstore can be a little overwhelming — it’s huge and it has everything you need. Or, at least, they claim to have everything you need. I mean, there are multiple floors and sections for anything from art to architecture, food to fitness, sociology to Spanish. If you need it, they’ve got it. But sometimes you can get lost in the midst of all those books. And sometimes you just don’t need that many books (and money).

As someone who loves books but is also trying to save money (and not spend so much time buying new ones), I found myself purchasing less than usual from my school bookstore each semester—usually only one or two textbooks and maybe one ebook or used coursepack if needed (which aren’t always available).

The University of Illinois Book Store is an online store for the university, which sells to students and alumni. They have a wide variety of products that you can buy directly from their website without having to go into their physical location.
In addition to books, they also sell electronics and more general merchandise such as clothing. There are also many textbooks available for purchase on Amazon if you prefer not to buy them through campus bookstore websites like this one.
On the first floor is the textbook section, which is where you’ll be spending most of your time if you’re a student at Illinois (unless you buy your textbooks online or rent them somewhere else). The bookstore also has every Illini apparel item imaginable. Plus, they have plenty of school supplies (pens, pencils, notepads, binders), food, snacks and drinks.

There are two more floors of general merchandise before ending on the sixth floor with more clothing options such as shoes and accessories such as purses/handbags.

If you’re looking for a little something extra, the U of I bookstore is the place to go. The book selection is great, but there are also tons of snacks and drinks available in case you get hungry or thirsty while studying. You can also find some Illini apparel if that’s what floats your boat.
