University Of Illinois In Chicago Tuition
The University of Illinois at Chicago is a public research university that offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs. With more than 30,000 students, UIC is the largest university in the Chicago area. The school was founded in 1965 after Chicago Mayor Richard J. Daley pushed for the creation of a four-year public university within Chicago’s city limits. The majority of UIC’s students live near campus, which is located on an urban campus along Lakeshore Drive between Lake Michigan and Adams Street Beach.
Tuition and Fees
Tuition and fees are the same for all students. A $30 registration fee is also assessed to all new students in their first semester of enrollment at UIC. This fee must be paid prior to your first day of classes and is nonrefundable after that date.
Tuition and fees are due at the beginning of each semester, regardless of when you registered for classes or if you changed your schedule after registration took place. In addition, any tuition or other charges not covered by scholarship or financial aid awards must be paid before enrolling in classes or at least two weeks before the end of each term (see Payment Due Dates).

Payment
Illinois students may make payments in one of three ways:
- Online banking and credit card payments are submitted through MyUIUC, the University’s online portal. Students who pay by direct deposit should use their bank account number to ensure that funds are transferred successfully.
- Students may also mail in checks made payable to “University of Illinois” and mailed to Student Financial Services at 101 S. Wood Street, Champaign IL 61820-6407.
- Payments can be made by cash or check at any campus location, including the Cashier Counter on the first floor of Student Center East (SC-E) for cash payments or O’Neill Library for check payments.
Refunds
If you are in good standing with the University of Illinois at Chicago, and have paid your tuition, fees, housing and meal plan in full by the appropriate deadlines (see below), you will be eligible for a refund. If you are not eligible for a refund as described below, you may apply for an extension of payment deadline by completing the Request for Extension form (PDF). Extensions must be approved by your college or department prior to submitting the form.
In order to receive your refund:
- You must have paid all tuition and fees due on time;
- You must have paid any balance due on Housing (if applicable);
- You must have paid any balance due on Meal Plan(s) (if applicable); and
- You must meet all other financial obligations with the university such as health insurance premiums if required.
Scholarships
Scholarships are a form of financial aid that are awarded based on merit, need or both. Scholarships are available to all students and can be used to help pay for tuition and other educational expenses.
To apply for scholarships at the University of Illinois at Chicago, you will need to complete the admission application and submit it with your required documents by the deadline date provided in your admissions decision letter. The Financial Aid Office will review your file once we receive it; if you’re eligible for a scholarship, we’ll send you an award letter indicating how much money you’ve been awarded and how it will be dispersed (for example: cash award or loan).

If you are a resident of Illinois and qualify as an Illinois resident, you will be charged a lower rate than nonresidents who qualify as out-of-state residents.
