In 1912 Thomas Anderson Dodds became president of what was now known as Transylvania University but later resigned due to health issues after only one year at which point he was succeeded briefly by John A. Garraty before becoming ill himself—Garraty then decided not return after resolving some differences with faculty members from whom he feared being “isolated” during his presidency if he did so so instead hired Benjamin Franklin McKeever who stayed for seven years until 1928 when
