The University of Michigan has opened a regional office in Marquette.
The purpose of the new office is to provide state-of-the-art facilities for students, faculty and staff to collaborate with experts from across campus and industry to advance breakthrough technologies. The regional office will be staffed by senior government relations director Mike Gutzeit, who previously served as executive vice president at Grand Valley State University. He will work with local leaders on issues related to higher education funding and workforce development initiatives.
The location of the Marquette Regional Facility is 140 West Front Street, Suite 200. It will be open Monday through Friday between 7:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m., except for holidays or university closings during winter break which could include Christmas Day (December 25) through New Year’s Day (January 1).

The new Marquette office will be headed by Steve Geller, who was previously the Executive Director of the Michigan Student Assembly and an adjunct professor at MSU’s School of Criminal Justice. The university plans to open additional regional offices in Grand Rapids and Traverse City over time.
The goal is to build partnerships and help boost the region’s economy.
The relationship between the University of Michigan and Marquette University has been a mutually beneficial partnership in many areas, including economic development. The university will be able to help Marquette with its economic development goals as well as with education, research, healthcare and technology. In addition to helping Marquette grow its faculty and student body, it will also be involved in helping Marquette attain new technologies that will help them become more competitive on the national stage.
The goal is for the two institutions to work together so that they can each benefit from each other’s strengths and expertise while at the same time improving their overall reputation among prospective students, faculty members and donors.
