University Of Missouri Mens Basketball

The University of Missouri men’s basketball team represents the University of Missouri in NCAA Division I college basketball and competes in the Southeastern Conference. The team plays its home games at Mizzou Arena in Columbia, Missouri on campus.

Mizzou Men’s Basketball was founded in 1901 and are currently coached by Cuonzo Martin. Previous coaches include Norm Stewart (1983–2005), Mike Anderson (2006–2010), Quin Snyder (2011–13), Kim Anderson (2014–17) and Frank Haith (2017). The Tigers have appeared in 30 NCAA tournaments with two Final Four appearances (1944 and 1968).

The first known game was played against St. Louis Normal School on January 23, 1902 with a score of 11-9 for MU.[1] They played their first varsity game against Washington University St. Louis one week later on January 30 winning 9-7.[2] The program then had four years without a coach before returning to play under John Smith who led them from 1910 to 1915.[3] During this time they went 28-8 under his leadership.[4] Smith is often credited as being the first coach of MU basketball but he did not claim that title until after his death because there were no official coaches during this time period according to Gary Bedingfield’s book “Mizzou Basketball: A History” written about the history of MU’s program since joining Division 1 athletics.[5]:

Michael Dixon Jr. (born June 7, 1991) is an American professional basketball player for the Atlanta Hawks of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was born in Chicago, Illinois.

Dixon played one year of college basketball at Memphis before transferring to Missouri. At Missouri, he averaged 9.5 points and 4 assists per game as a senior in 2012–13. After going undrafted in 2013 NBA Draft, he joined the Los Angeles Lakers for the 2013 NBA Summer League where he averaged 11 points per game over five games. He then signed with Spartak St Petersburg but did not play any games for them because his contract was voided due to medical issues with his physical exam

* Phil Pressey

Phil Pressey, a point guard for the Missouri Tigers, is the son of former NBA player Paul Pressey. The younger Pressey was named to the Big 12 All-Freshman Team in 2010 and was later selected as an honorable mention on the Big 12 All-Defensive Team in 2011.

A prolific ball handler with a knack for creating good looks for teammates and himself, Phil has led his team in assists each year he’s been at Missouri since he joined the team. He had one of his best seasons ever last year when he averaged 7.4 assists per game (second best in school history), 2 steals per game (fourth best), 4 rebounds per game (second best) and 17 points per game (third best).

Kim English (born September 28, 1988) is an American professional basketball player who last played for the New Orleans Pelicans of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball for the University of Missouri before going undrafted in the 2011 NBA draft.

In his senior year at Missouri, English won numerous accolades including Southeastern Conference Player of the Year and USBWA National Player of the Year. He led his team to a 33–3 record, resulting in a number one seed in their conference tournament and NCAA Tournament appearance.

Laurence Bowers is a basketball player for the University of Missouri. He is a reserve forward on the 2011-12 Missouri Tigers basketball team, and he has since become a starter.

* J. T. Tiller

If you’re a long-time fan of the University of Missouri Tigers, you know about J. T. Tiller. The former professional basketball player played for four seasons at Mizzou (1998 to 2002) and helped lead the team to two NCAA Tournament appearances, one Sweet Sixteen appearance, three Big 12 regular season championships and two conference tournament titles. He was also a member of the 2003 NIT championship team.

Marcus Denmon was a guard for the University of Missouri, where he played from 2008-2012. He was a second-team all-SEC selection in 2011, and then went on to be named a first team All-SEC player in both 2012 and 2013. He was also named to the First Team All American Team in 2013.

Oriakhi is a forward for the Missouri Tigers men’s basketball team. He is a 6’9″ (2.06 m) and 240 lb (110 kg) center. He played high school basketball at Our Saviour New American in Centereach, New York under coach Jack Curran. After graduating from high school, he committed to play college basketball at the University of Connecticut and ultimately helped lead them to win three consecutive national championships from 2008 to 2010 as well as being named Most Outstanding Player during their 2009 title run where they defeated Michigan State Spartans 71-56.
