The University of Mount Olive is a private university with a diverse student body. Associate of Arts

Associate of Arts (AA)

This degree is a two-year associate degree and it’s designed to give students a general education. It’s a liberal arts degree that allows students to take courses in their areas of interest while also earning credits toward their associate’s degree.

The Associate of Arts gives students the opportunity to explore different areas of study, obtain valuable knowledge and skills, and pursue the career they are most interested in. With an AA from Mount Olive College, you can gain entry into many four-year programs at major universities across the country.

Associate of Science in Environmental Studies

The Associate of Science in Environmental Studies program is designed to prepare students for careers in the environmental field. The curriculum requires students to complete courses which satisfy the requirements of a core curriculum in biology, chemistry, mathematics, and physics. In addition to these courses, students are required to complete an additional 20 credit hours of elective course work chosen from a wide range of disciplines including business management and finance; English composition; foreign languages; history; philosophy; psychology; sociology; criminal justice or political science classes such as American government etc.

The degree can be completed within two years if you attend full-time or three years if you attend part-time while working full-time

Associate of Arts in Early Childhood Education

The Associate of Arts in Early Childhood Education is a two-year program designed to prepare students for careers as early childhood educators, elementary school teachers, or special education teachers. The curriculum emphasizes child development, learning theories, multiculturalism and diversity. Students will also study math and English composition. Upon completion of this degree program you’ll be eligible to take the State Board Exam for your certification as an Early Childhood Educator.

Associate of Applied Science in Occupational Therapy Assistant

If you’re interested in becoming an occupational therapy assistant, but don’t have the time or money for a bachelor’s degree program, consider pursuing an associate of applied science at the University of Mount Olive.

The degree takes two years to complete, and covers the core courses that prepare students for entry-level positions in occupational therapy (OT). It includes coursework in human anatomy and physiology, medical ethics and professional practice skills.

Students can apply online through their MyUMO account. The application deadline is February 1st each year; financial aid is available on a case-by-case basis if you qualify based on need.

The Associate of Science in Agriculture is designed for students who wish to transfer to a four-year institution and pursue a degree in agricultural science.

The College of Arts and Sciences offers students an opportunity for a rich, well-rounded liberal arts education. The curriculum is designed to be flexible enough so that students may achieve their own goals and aspirations while fulfilling the general requirements for graduation. College faculty encourage individualized study and research, which enhances classroom instruction as well as work experiences beyond the campus. The College provides a wide range of courses that provide both a firm foundation in knowledge acquisition, critical thinking skills necessary for lifelong learning and effective communication skills required by today’s employers.

Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fine Art Studio

The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fine Art Studio is a program of study that prepares students for a career in the visual arts. The program teaches the use of traditional and non-traditional materials, skills and processes to create original works of art. Students study drawing, painting, printmaking, photography and sculpture while learning about the historical development and current trends in these fields. In addition to these studio courses students will take classes in art history as well as liberal arts electives such as literature and music appreciation.

Students are encouraged to utilize their talents by pursuing specializations within their major such as ceramics or digital media design. They may also choose from an array of individualized minor programs such as art history or graphic design that allow them more flexibility when determining their course load each semester.

Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design

The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design (BFA) program provides students with the opportunity to develop their creative abilities in the areas of visual communication, design and computer art. The curriculum is designed to expose students to a variety of graphic design media, techniques and processes. Students learn how to interpret client requirements; prepare initial design concepts; use color theory, typography and page layout software; create original artwork for advertising, packaging and editorial illustration; create photographic images for print or display purposes; present their work digitally or through traditional means such as photography, painting/drawing or illustration.;

Students also have an opportunity to develop their portfolios by incorporating digital imaging technology into their presentations. Students take courses that explore various aspects of computer art such as 3-D modeling using Maya or Photoshop Elements 9 programs which enable them to create realistic images from scratch without taking photographs.

Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education

The Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education is a four-year program designed for students who wish to teach in elementary schools. The curriculum focuses on the cognitive and affective development of young children and includes courses such as child study, educational foundations, learning and teaching in early childhood settings, and general psychology. In addition to meeting state certification requirements for teachers in North Carolina public schools, graduates with this degree are prepared to pursue additional graduate studies related to their careers as qualified teachers or school administrators

Bachelor’s Degree In Middle Grades Education with a Concentration in English/Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, or Science. A Concentration In Elementary Education Is Also Available.

The Bachelor of Science in Middle Grades Education with a concentration in English/Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, or Science is offered through the College of Education. This program is designed for students who want to teach in the middle grades and may be completed on campus or online. The degree is offered in conjunction with the University of Mount Olive’s Center for Literacy and Language Development. Students must complete the General Education Requirements before they can enroll in their chosen major.

The College offers two tracks: Elementary Education and Middle Grades Education (MGE). The MGE track offers five concentrations: English/Language Arts; Mathematics; Social Studies; Science; or Dual Concentration (two areas). All students must take an oral communication course as part of their general education requirements during their freshman year at Mount Olive prior to being admitted into any major-specific curriculums.

This program requires an additional four years beyond high school graduation before students can earn their certificate or degree from Mount Olive University.*
