The Tar Heels are not perfect, but they’re pretty good.

No. 10 North Carolina 49, Miami 24

NC D has been a problem for teams this season and Miami was no exception. The Canes had trouble getting anything going in the red zone, finishing with seven field goals on their 12 trips inside the 20.

In total we saw two touchdowns from each side of the ball, with North Carolina scoring twice on offense and twice on defense. Redshirt junior linebacker Chase Whitehead set up one score when he intercepted a pass at midfield, taking it back to Miami’s 30-yard line before handing off to fellow linebacker Tysen Ziemba who ran it in for six points just moments later.

Chase Whitehead has scored four defensive touchdowns this season which ties him with Texas A&M’s Kingsley Keke for most defensive scores by an FBS player since 2000 (source).

North Carolina’s offense is still rolling and the defense is making enough plays. It could be argued that this team isn’t as good as last year’s squad, but that would be a misguided thought process. The Tar Heels are better than they were a year ago because they have more experienced players on both sides of the ball who have grown into their respective roles over time.

With all due respect to Virginia Tech and Duke, North Carolina has a good chance to win the ACC Coastal Division this season. This would give them a strong resume for postseason play should they get there

The Tar Heels are a good football team. It’s not surprising that they’re 7-1, but it is impressive that they’re doing so well with so many players out of the lineup due to injuries. The offense has been rolling all season, and it doesn’t look like there’s any stopping them right now. The defense is also making enough plays when they need to on a weekly basis as well which helps keep games close even though UNC may be off their game sometimes during those contests.”
