Overview Of University Of North Texas

The University of North Texas is a public research university in Denton, Texas, on the edge of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. With more than 35,000 students and 2,500 faculty members across nine colleges and schools, UNT is one of the largest universities in Texas and has been designated a Doctoral/Research Extensive University by The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.

UNT was founded as an agricultural branch campus belonging to North Texas State Normal College (now known as the University of North Texas at Dallas). In 1959, UNT became autonomous from its parent institution with approval from both institutions’ governing boards and changed its name to North Texas State University. In 1963, “North” was removed from its title after many years since it had been unnecessary; however “State” remained until 1990 when it was replaced with just plain “University”

University Of North Texas Campus Life And Surrounding Area

The University of North Texas is located in Denton, Texas. Denton is a college town located in the northern part of the state near Dallas. The city is home to about 115,000 residents, many of whom are students at the university or other colleges in the area.

The campus itself is located about a mile from downtown Denton and within walking distance to several attractions like museums and shopping centers. Students enrolled at this school often spend time exploring their surroundings as well as getting involved with group activities on campus.

University Of North Texas Academics

The University of North Texas is a public research university with about 36,000 students on its Denton campus and more than 74,000 in total. It’s a member of the Texas State University System and was founded in 1890 as North Texas Normal College before rebranding itself as the University of North Texas in 1959.

The university is home to five colleges across two campuses:

  • The College of Arts & Sciences (CAS) – offers over 50 undergraduate majors and 10 graduate programs at UNT Dallas.
  • The Honors College – enrolls about 2% of UNT students; it’s unique because it offers smaller classes, more advisement services and specialized programming to help students succeed academically.
  • The School Of Education And Human Services (SEHHS) – provides teacher education programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels along with counseling psychology master’s degree options through its Graduate School Of Professional Psychology Division.

University Of North Texas Admission Requirements

The University of North Texas admission requirements are used by the Office of Admissions to determine whether a student is eligible to enroll at the university. The standard admissions requirements for all undergraduate programs include a minimum high school GPA and ACT or SAT scores. Some schools may require additional information such as letters of recommendation, essays or portfolios.

International students must also meet additional academic requirements such as TOEFL scores if English is not your native language.

University Of North Texas Application Deadlines And Fees

The University of North Texas has two application deadlines every year, one in March and another in July. The school offers a variety of application options depending on where you are applying from and whether or not you are an international applicant. Students can apply online, by mail or fax, or with a paper application.

International Students: If you are an international student or would like to become one before your current student visa expires, follow these steps:

  • Make sure that all required documents have been submitted to International Student Services (ISS). For more information about the required documentation, visit their website at https://www2.unt.edu/iss/.
  • Pay $100 USD non-refundable deposit per semester to confirm enrollment if accepted into a program before April 30th for fall semester; November 30th for spring semester; February 15th for summer session I; June 15th for summer session II (international students only).

UNT has a variety of housing options for students. Students can choose to live on campus in one of the dorms or off campus in apartments and homes.
