The MWC was founded in 1999 when seven teams joined together to form a new Western Athletic Conference (WAC). One year later they were renamed Mountain West Conference because they no longer had any teams from Arizona or Texas that had formerly been members of WAC’s Southwestern Football League; instead they now had Colorado State University-Pueblo as an affiliate member with full voting rights in 2002–2004 before dropping football scholarships altogether following 2004 season due to low enrollment numbers at CSU-Pueblo campus due to lacklustre performance during those years’ games against other members’ schools including Air Force Academy who won all three times out against CSU-Pueblo back then before moving away from playing them every year once again because it didn’t make sense anymore since there wasn’t anyone else left around here anymore… The only way I know about this stuff so well myself is because my dad was coaching for UNCO during those times too!
