My name is Jonathan Smith, and I am currently a student at University of Phoenix. While some may argue that this is the worst school in America, I disagree with that statement. In fact, there are many good things about UoP that other schools fail to offer students such as their low tuition rates and flexible schedule options. However, like every other higher education institution out there today, they are not accredited by my state in which they are located.”
University Of Phoenix Accreditation
I was a student at University of Phoenix and I have few good things to say. Firstly, they are not accredited by my state in which they are located.
Accreditation is important. Accreditation is a sign of quality. When you want to trust that your college education will be legitimate, accredited colleges are the best choice. Accredited schools also tend to be more trustworthy and have better reputations than unaccredited schools.
If University of Phoenix wants to become nationally accredited, it needs to follow the same process as all other colleges, which involves meeting accreditation standards and undergoing an on-site evaluation by an accrediting agency like WASC or ACCSC.
While I did receive aid from the government, it wasn’t enough to pay their tuition and students were required to use their private loans directly from them.
While I did receive aid from the government, it wasn’t enough to pay their tuition and students were required to use their private loans directly from them. This means that if you have good credit and can get a lower interest rate through a bank or other lender, it is best to do so.
The amount of aid you receive depends on your financial situation, which may include:
- Your income (if any) and assets
- Your family size
- The cost of attendance at the school (tuition plus room & board)
If your income is below $50K/year, then your family size is less than four people living at home with you (including yourself), and if tuition at UA-Phoenix costs more than $1M per year then chances are pretty good that will qualify for some form or financial aid such as grants and scholarships as well as low-interest government loans like Stafford Loans or Perkins Loans depending on how much money they give out each year from their own sources alone without needing additional funding from outside organizations such as grants or donations etcetera like me since I am not eligible for any type of loan program due to my current circumstances but still need a way out somehow without going bankrupt trying so hard just because people don’t understand how hard life really gets sometimes when one has nothing left anymore except hope itself even though sometimes hope doesn’t seem enough anymore either.”
The program I was enrolled in was an AA in criminal justice.
The program I was enrolled in was an AA in criminal justice. The program primarily focused on the history and development of the field, as well as topics like juvenile delinquency, gangs and drugs. One thing that I found unique about this program is that it allowed students to choose their own electives and apply credits towards their degree by taking classes at local community colleges or online. In order to graduate with an AA in Criminal Justice, you must complete at least 60 semester hours of coursework which includes:
- A minimum of 25 transferable credits from an accredited college or university
- A minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 or better on all transferred courses
It’s almost comical thinking back on how little the teachers knew about criminal justice because they were just as lost as we were.
You might be thinking, “How can a university help me get a job when the teachers don’t know what they’re doing?” It’s almost comical thinking back on how little the teachers knew about criminal justice because they were just as lost as we were.
One teacher would tell us that he was leaving because he had another job lined up, but then he didn’t leave. In fact, I never saw him teach again after that! Another teacher would come into class late and walk out early every day while still lecturing us—and this happened for weeks straight! To make matters worse, if you missed any classes without an excuse from your doctor or an act of God (like a hurricane), you’d have to take makeup quizzes with no feedback about where you went wrong in order to pass them with a D+.
My point is that this school isn’t worth your money or time unless it’s something specific like music theory or graphic design where there aren’t so many students competing for jobs in those fields. If you want to learn graphic design skills at home without paying thousands of dollars out-of-pocket each semester just so some prof can tell everyone else how cool their work looks while not giving any constructive criticism on how theirs could improve…then maybe go ahead and enroll here? Otherwise stay away from this place at all costs!
It was so bad that many of the professors refused to grade us on anything related to criminal justice because it showed just how much they didn’t know and didn’t want parents/the government to know either.
In this case, the university has accredited itself. The professors do not have to meet any standards for teaching in order to be allowed to teach at that school, and many of them are not qualified to teach the subject. This is why many professors refused to grade our work on criminal justice because they couldn’t pass a high school civics test themselves.
UoP also claims to have employers in the field who can help get you a job when you graduate, but this is really just a sales pitch.

Employers don’t care about your degree. They care about your experience.
They don’t care about your GPA or GRE score. Most of our students had mediocre academic histories and still landed great jobs out of school!
They don’t care about any letters of recommendation, especially if they are from family members or friends (who probably know nothing about your achievements).
However, what I got from my experience with UoP is probably more than most others did simply because I had a handful of amazing professors who really cared about their students.
I had a handful of amazing professors who really cared about their students. They were passionate and knowledgeable, but also knew how to make the material come alive. As a result, I learned more in my two semesters at UoP than I did during my first two years of college.

UoP isn’t accredited by my state
If you are looking to pursue a degree from UoP, you may be wondering whether or not your state will recognize the credits you earn. Unfortunately, there is no one-size-fits-all answer to this question. Each state has different requirements for what constitutes an accredited school, and many factors can affect whether or not a school is considered accredited by any particular state.
As a general rule of thumb: if you’re concerned about whether or not your credits will transfer to another college or university after graduating from UoP (which we strongly recommend doing), check with that institution about its policies on accepting transfer credits from non-accredited schools first before taking action! If they say it’s fine for them to accept those credits then go ahead and apply with confidence; otherwise talk with someone who specializes in higher education before making any decisions about where else should attend instead.”
Closing
It was an interesting experience, but I feel like it was a waste of time. I wouldn’t recommend anyone go through this unless they have been out of high school for at least three years because the workload is too much for younger students.
