University Of Portland Womens Soccer

The University of Portland women’s soccer team represents the University of Portland in NCAA Division I men’s and women’s soccer competition. The Pilots play their home matches at Merlo Field, where they have played since 2004. The team is currently coached by Jim Sartori.

Fall 2019 Season:

The Portland Pilots and the Brigham Young Cougars will meet on Friday for the first time since Brigham Young won the WCC Championship in 2003.

The Pilots have never beaten BYU at home, losing 12 consecutive matches against them by an average margin of 2.5 goals per game. The last time BYU lost to Portland was in 2012 when they were ranked #1 in the country and had just won their fourth national title under legendary coach Craig Pilling (now head coach at San Diego State).

More teams

The University of Portland’s women’s soccer team has been a mainstay in the collegiate athletics scene since its inception in 1971. Since then, it has been placed within the NCAA’s Division I West Region and competed against other top-ranked teams from all over the state.

The Pilots have had some of their best seasons recently: In 2017, they finished second in their conference behind Stanford; later that year, they lost to Penn State in the Round of 16 of the NCAA Tournament despite having beaten them earlier that season on an upset bid. However, this was not enough for them to be considered serious contenders for this season’s title game; instead they’ll need another year or two before being able to contend with some more established programs like Washington State or Oregon Ducks

University of Portland Women’s Soccer Prepares for Friday Night Showdown with BYU – University of Portland Athletics

Friday’s game will be the first time BYU and Portland have met since 2003. The Cougars swept the Pilots, winning 3-0 in Provo and 2-1 in Portland. In fact, BYU won the WCC Championship that year as well.

Friday’s game also could result in a tie atop the conference standings for both teams as they are both undefeated at 4-0 in conference play. If this happens, it will break a streak of five straight years where either BYU or Portland has taken home second place honors behind Gonzaga since it joined Division I status in 2001; however, this is not expected to happen as each team has only given up one goal so far this season (BYU allowed a goal on Sept. 29 against Santa Clara).
