Undergraduate Admissions

Undergraduate admissions at USC is a holistic process. The university considers all aspects of your application and how they relate to your potential for success at USC, including academic performance, extracurricular activities and honors, recommendations from teachers or counselors, personal statements, letters of recommendation from professional contacts (including employers), and any additional information you may want to include in your application materials.

Admissions Requirements for Undergraduates

To be eligible for undergraduate admission at USC you must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a high school graduate or have earned a GED certificate (General Educational Development) by the time of enrollment.
  • Have completed an approved college preparatory program of study with grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or its equivalent.* Submit official SAT scores obtained no earlier than 2016 OR ACT scores obtained no earlier than June 2018.* Submit an official high school transcript that shows graduation date along with SAT/ACT test scores.* Have taken four years of English; three years each if literature/composition and literature/composition-related courses are taken concurrently; two years each if both speech communications and journalism courses are taken concurrently; one year each if foreign language skills do not reach third level proficiency by end-of-second year (this includes one semester); three years each if mathematics includes geometry as well as algebra II or higher; four years each if physical education electives are counted toward graduation requirement instead.* Meet minimum test score requirements set forth by USC depending on which degree program you choose to apply for.* Be currently enrolled full time at an accredited postsecondary institution

Undergraduate Admissions

Graduate Admissions : Graduate School of Education, Information Studies and Online Teaching (iSTEM), Marshall School of Business, Roski School for the Arts and Design, Keck School of Medicine.

International Undergraduate Students: International applicants are required to submit their TOEFL scores or IELTS scores if they are not a native English speaker. Please note that USC does not offer any waivers for TOEFL/IELTS requirements. You can find out more about our English language requirements here. You must also meet all other admission requirements along with your English language proficiency tests score requirement. Please note that if you have taken the SAT or ACT exam more than once (including an early SAT), we will forward all scores to the University of Southern California Office Of Admission upon receipt from College Board or ACT respectively. In addition to your application materials and fees, you must submit official transcripts from each high school attended as well as copies of diplomas awarded by prior colleges/universities attended; documents in languages other than English must be accompanied by certified translations into English on official letterhead signed by an authorized translator at a minimum rate per page agreed upon between applicant and translator; official test reports showing final grades obtained in each course attempted (take-home exams do not qualify); proof that financial need is met according to guidelines set forth annually by Federal Student Aid authorities; guidance counselor recommendation forms signed by high school guidance counselors who know prospective students well enough so as to provide meaningful insight into their personalities/characteristics/strengths against whom applicants will be compared during admission processes conducted throughout USA & Canada; letters of recommendation on official business stationery signed by persons who may know prospective students well enough so as to provide meaningful insight into their personalities/characteristics/strengths against whom applicants will be compared during admission processes .

International Undergraduate Students

In order to apply as an international undergraduate student, you must meet the following requirements:

  • You must be a student in good standing at your current institution.
  • You must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

International Graduate Students

International students are required to submit the following documents:

  • International Student Application for Graduate Admission
  • Official transcripts from all secondary and post-secondary institutions attended (official TOEFL or IELTS score)
  • Transcripts must be in English or accompanied by an official English translation.

Undergraduate Admission Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • TOEFL score of 550 or above, IELTS 6.5 with no band below 5.5, or PTE Academic 54 with a minimum of 50 in each test component (reading, listening, writing and speaking). Both the TOEFL and IELTS are offered on campus at the University. See Testing Services for more information.
