The UTech Faculty of Medicine was established in 2012; it is located at the Mona Campus and its first batch started classes in 2013. The faculty offers an undergraduate medical programme (MBChB) leading to registration with the Medical Council of Jamaica/Committee on Higher Degrees in Medicine (CHDM) upon satisfactory completion.

It was established on 1 August 1958 as part of the college system under the Ministry of Education that was designed to produce high quality technicians to meet the needs of industry and commerce. Its governance framework is based on the Jamaica Constitution and its authority rests with an executive council appointed by the minister responsible for education. UTech has five faculties: Business Administration; Engineering & Applied Science; Health Sciences; Humanities & Education; Science & Technology.
The university has about 12000 students (of which about 3300 are postgraduate) and more than 400 staff members including professors, associate professors, lecturers and research fellows.
