The University of Technology Queensland (UTQ) is an Australian university with campuses in Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Townsville. UTQ offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in more than 60 disciplines, and has a staff of over 1400 professors and researchers. History of UTQ

UTQ has a long and colourful history dating back to 1875. First established as a technical school, the University of Technology Queensland (UTQ) has since evolved into one of Australia’s leading universities, with renowned faculties in engineering, science and business.

UTQ traces its roots back to 1875 when the Brisbane Technical School was established by local businessman and philanthropist George Smith. Originally located at Petrie Terrace, the school moved to Geebung in 1883 and then to South Brisbane in 1909. In 1925, the Queensland government merged the Brisbane Technical School with the Central Queensland Institute of Technology (now the Queensland University of Technology) to create the Queensland Institute of Technology (QIT).

During World War II, QIT was one of only two universities in Queensland that did not close down. In fact, many university staff volunteered their time to support military activities. After the war, QIT underwent significant growth, opening new faculties including architecture and law. In 1957, QIT became an independent university and changed its name to the University of Technology Queensland (UTQ).

In 1968, UTQ merged with two other regional universities – Griffith University and Northern Queensland College – to form Central Queensland University. In

The University’s Campuses

The University of Technology Queensland has four campuses located in Brisbane, Ipswich, Redland City and Townsville. All campuses offer a range of facilities and services to students and staff.

Brisbane Campus
The Brisbane Campus is located in the CBD area of Brisbane. It includes the faculties of Science, Engineering, Business and Law as well as the Queensland Conservatorium of Music. The campus has a mix of public and private accommodation options, including student residences, apartments and townhouses. There are also a number of restaurants and cafes on-campus.

Ipswich Campus
The Ipswich Campus is located 30 minutes from central Brisbane and offers a modern campus with more than 100km of walking paths and bike lanes. The faculties of Science, Business, Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine are based on the campus. Facilities include an extensive library, two theatres, two cafes and a sports complex. The campus also has private accommodation options.

Redland City Campus
The Redland City Campus is located 40 minutes from central Brisbane and offers a modern campus with more than 100km of walking paths and bike lanes. The faculties of Science, Business, Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine are based on the campus. Facilities include an extensive library

Campus Life at UTQ

UTQ has a great campus life with plenty of activities to keep students occupied. From sporting events to arts and cultural events, there is always something happening on campus. UTQ has a great range of sporting facilities, including two world-class cricket ovals and 11 rugby fields. There are also 186 tennis courts, 84 basketball courts, 15 badminton courts and 64 squash courts.

Academic Programs at UTQ

UTQ offers a variety of academic programs that are designed to meet the needs of students.
The Faculty of Business and Law offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in law, business, accounting, finance, marketing and international studies.
The Faculty of Science offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics and earth science.
The Faculty of Agriculture and Resource Management offers undergraduate degrees in agricultural science, environmental science and management, crop production management, livestock production management, food science and nutrition, forestry technology and land management.
UTQ also has a school of health sciences which includes undergraduate programs in physiotherapy, nursing, allied health sciences and medical sciences.
