The University of Tennessee Volleyball team, the Lady Volunteers, has a rich history and is one of the most successful programs in Division I women’s volleyball. The Lady Vols have made 12 appearances in the Sweet 16, qualifying for the NCAA Tournament in 32 of their past 33 seasons and winning five consecutive SEC Championships from 1998 to 2002 and seven total. They have an all-time record of 34-27 in NCAA tournament matches and currently hold an all-time SEC record of 159-79 (.667).

Tennessee reached its first Final Four since 2003 last season at San Antonio’s Alamodome, where it went down 0-2 against eventual national champion Washington before claiming three straight matches from there on out to finish third overall (fourth if you count its 3-0 win over Hawai’i in an opening round match).

Tennessee is one of only two teams (the other being Stanford) to make the Final Four at least twice since the tournament expanded to 64 teams in 1985. While they have never won a national title, they have finished as high as third place on four occasions: 1991 (losing to Stanford), 1996 (losing to Nebraska), 1997 (losing to UCLA) and 2008(losing to Penn State).

The University of Tennessee Volleyball program has earned the reputation as one of the premier volleyball programs in the country. With a .667 winning percentage in the SEC over their 50 years, Vols have been able to capture 159 conference titles and make numerous trips to the NCAA tournament.

The current coaching staff is no exception when it comes to putting up impressive numbers on a national scale. Head coach Rob Vaughn has compiled a career record of 682-197 (.781) with his teams at UT Chattanooga, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, University of Central Missouri and most recently Tennessee (2010-present). In addition to being one of only five active coaches with 200 career wins at the Division I level or higher, Vaughn was named 2009 National Coach-of-the Year by Volleyball Magazine after leading Southern Illinois Edwardsville (SIUE) to its first ever NCAA appearance in school history that season.

The Vols own a .717 average home attendance during their history, with a high mark of 3,150 fans per match set during the 1998 season.
