They finished with a 20-1-2 record and were ranked first in the nation in both the coaches poll and National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll.[4] It was their third consecutive appearance in the College Cup, having defeated Boston College 3–2 in overtime to win their second straight NCAA title.[5][6]
