INTRODUCTION

To set up your pirate portal, you will need:

  • A computer with working internet access
  • A good internet connection (DSL+ or faster)
  • Access to the Tor network (version 4.5.4 or higher)
  • Software for setting up an instance of a Tor hidden service (information on how to do this is out of scope for now)

Hi. I’m Victoria. I’m a professional hacker and I’m here to teach you how to get started as a hacker.

Hi, I’m Victoria and I’m a professional hacker. In this article, I’ll teach you the basics of how to get started as a hacker.

First things first: what do you need? The most important thing for a newbie hacker like yourself is probably an understanding of different types of attacks. There are many different kinds of attacks, but the two main ones are known as ‘passive’ and ‘active.’ A passive attack would be any time that someone is eavesdropping or spying on your information. This can happen in many ways: maybe someone has installed malware on your computer that’s listening to what you type, or perhaps they’ve even planted hidden cameras around your home or office in order to capture everything you do. An active attack would be any time that someone interferes with your information; examples include a denial-of-service (DoS) attack where an attacker floods the target with so much traffic that it can’t handle all of it at once and crashes

Here are the basics of what you’ll need:

  • For anyone who wants to use the Pirate Portal, you’ll need a computer running Linux. Your choice of Linux distribution is up to you, and we’ll have some recommendations for those new to using it later on.
  • In order to access the Pirate Portal, you’ll need a good internet connection. It’s very slow due to its location within the Tor network (more on that in a bit), so while smartphones will technically work, we recommend using this on a desktop or laptop computer with Wi-Fi capabilities.
  • You’ll also need some basic programming languages installed like Python or Ruby. We recommend these since they’re easier for total beginners to learn than something like C++ or Java because they don’t require “compiling”, but if you have experience with other programming languages, feel free to use them instead (we won’t be looking at any advanced coding techniques here).
  • Accessing the Pirate Portal requires accessing the Tor network through an app called Orbot (you can get it for Android devices from Google Play Store). If your device doesn’t support installing apps from outside sources like Amazon Appstore then unfortunately this tutorial isn’t going to be very helpful—but once again there are many other ways out there!

For equipment, you’ll need a computer, preferably with Linux installed on it. You could start with Windows but Linux you’ll really need in the long run. You can follow my step-by-step guide for installing Linux and configuring your system here.

You can follow my step-by-step guide for installing Linux and configuring your system here. If you don’t have access to a computer that you can install Linux on, or if you’re stuck using Windows, I’d recommend downloading VirtualBox and installing Ubuntu as a guest OS. It’s free and will allow you to use a lot of the same tools as if it were running natively although it may be slower and slightly more difficult to work with.

For this tutorial, we’ll be working on an Ubuntu system (not in virtualbox).

Next, you’re going to need a good internet connection. This can be anything from your home internet connection, or connecting through wifi at a nearby cafe or library.

Next, you’re going to need a good internet connection. This can be anything from your home internet connection, or connecting through wifi at a nearby cafe or library.

If you are using your home internet, it is best if you are connected directly to it via ethernet cable instead of wifi. It is not required, but is more secure and less error-prone than wifi. It helps tremendously if you have an internet connection with unlimited bandwidth and a high bandwidth cap (if any). We’ve found that the 5Ghz band of wifi works better for this application than the 2Ghz band with most routers.

If you are using an open public wifi network (e.g., at a cafe), then things get a little more complicated, as these networks may put restrictions on what kind of traffic can pass through them and on how much data can be transferred within certain timeframes or over longer periods of time. Some cafes block P2P file-sharing traffic from their networks altogether and only allow connections to web pages or other services that they run themselves (and which they control). When trying to connect to these types of networks, we’ve seen clients drop offline after just 10 seconds because they were unable to send data back out quickly enough before the network dropped their connections for inactivity due to restrictions on the amount of data being transferred in a given period of time. In addition, some public wifi connections require additional authentication through an authentication web page hosted by the network itself rather than by your device’s operating system directly; this causes issues with our application because we dislike user-interfaces and therefore don’t support them in our software yet! If all else fails, consider visiting your local library where hopefully no such restrictions apply!

For software, there are some programming languages that are useful to know like Python and Ruby, but you don’t have to be an expert programmer because there are tons of tools already out there that will help you learn how to use them. The best way is just to try out different ones until something works for ya!

You’ll also want access to the Tor network. I recommend using Orbot, which is available in Google Play store or F-Droid (the alternative app store). Installing it is really simple, and it helps keep your personal information safe online – something every hacker should care about.
