The Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine was founded by Dr. James Law, who started it as Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine and Biological Science. The school has been accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association since 1974, making it one of only two accredited schools that offer four year degrees.
In 2012, the school changed its name from Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine to Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences to reflect the fact that it offers both preclinical and clinical training for students.
The VMRCVM accepts about 80% of applications each year, making it one of the most selective vet schools in the US.
Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine (Virginia Tech), located in Blacksburg, Virginia, offers a four-year Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree program. The school also offers an internship track for students who wish to pursue a career in veterinary medicine but do not wish to pursue the DVM degree. Students who successfully complete the program are eligible to take the North American Veterinary Licensing Exam (NAVLE).
