The 2-year associate’s degree program at Richland College provides students with clinical as well as classroom training. The curriculum includes courses on human anatomy and physiology, developmental psychology, pharmacology, pathophysiology, community health nursing and more. During the final semester of training, students have an opportunity to apply their skills by working directly with nurses who serve as preceptors for these final clinical rotations. This coursework prepares individuals to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) examination that is required for licensing purposes. If a student completes all requirements of this program but does not pass this exam after three attempts they will be removed from consideration for licensure eligibility purposes by the Board of Nursing of Texas. Students may also opt to receive an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) which allows them to prepare directly for employment without taking additional general education courses or earning credits toward transferability at 4-year institutions.*
