Athletes who have been sidelined due to sports-related injuries still have the will to compete that makes them special, and this scholarship was created to support that passion. In an effort to give back to those who overcome their obstacles and thrive in the face of adversity, we are awarding $2,000 scholarships in 2019.

The will to win scholarship was established in the memory of the late Fred Bailey. Mr. Bailey was an avid sportsman who after his retirement continued to be a supporter of youth sports programs and other initiatives that encouraged kids to remain active despite their age or physical abilities. The foundation is currently seeking contributions as they hope to expand the number of scholarships offered each year by twofold.

For those who lost a scholarship because of an injury only 14% were able to resume playing sports at the college level; some did end up getting scholarships at other colleges where they could continue playing.

The WTW scholarship was founded by a former student of the University of West Alabama. He has first-hand experience with the difficulties he faced as a single parent when attending college and would like to help other students who are facing the same obstacles.

To be eligible for this $1000 scholarship, you must be:

• An African American currently enrolled in your last year of high school or at least 18 years old
• A first-year college student enrolled full time at one of our partner schools, which includes West Alabama or any community college or trade school in Alabama
• A single parent who is raising a child under age 24. You can not have custody of more than 2 children. Both you and your child(ren) must reside within Dallas County, AL limits.
