The Wolverines of Michigan, also known as the Maize and Blue, are a great team that competes with other colleges in basketball. They’ve been winning championships for many years now so you know they’re good.

Michigan Wolverines is the nickname of the athletic teams at the University of Michigan. The university sponsors 36 varsity sports. These include twenty-one men’s and women’s teams, plus a coed sailing team that competes in the Intercollegiate Sailing Association (ICSA). Fourteen different Michigan sports were ranked among the Top 25 nationally in 2016–17; eleven programs finished among the top five nationally. The University of Michigan Athletic Department sponsors seven men’s sports: baseball, basketball, cross country running, fencing, football, golf and swimming & diving; ten women’s sports: archery (indoor only), crew/rowing (indoor/outdoor), gymnastics (indoor/outdoor), hockey (NCHA or ACHA level only), rowing (indoor/outdoor), soccer (spring 2018 onward) softball tennis track & field volleyball water polo
