The Young Earth Fund is sponsoring 10 scholarships for $10,000 each. These scholarships will be provided to young people pursuing a STEM-related degree, such as in science, technology, engineering or mathematics. The scholarship can be used for tuition and school supplies.

The scholarships will be awarded to students pursuing degrees in STEM fields to provide support as they work towards their educational goals.

As a reminder, STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. These disciplines cover a wide variety of areas of study and career paths. For example, someone who is passionate about animals and the environment might pursue a degree in Biology or Environmental Science. A person intrigued by how cities are designed might consider studying Civil Engineering. Someone who loves to work with numbers might study Accounting or Data Analytics.

STEM careers have a huge impact on our daily lives – from food we eat to the cars we drive to the medicines we take – so there are many options available for diverse interests in STEM!

Applicants are invited to submit a video no longer than three minutes about the topic of climate change in our lifetime.

# APPROACHING YOUR TASKS

The scholarship committee will evaluate each video based on creativity, comprehensiveness, and how well it presents the applicant’s ideas and personality.

Let your personality shine through! Keep the following in mind when creating your video:

• Be creative. We are looking for original ideas, so pull out all the stops to showcase your passion and imagination.
• Be comprehensive. Don’t leave out any important information—if you do, the scholarship committee will have no way of knowing that you’re a part-time circus clown with a PhD in astrophysics and an affinity for French cooking who’s interested in studying astrophysical phenomena on Venus.
• Show your personality. If you don’t include any personal details about yourself, how will we know what an amazing person you really are? Tell us about yourself to make it easy for us to see how unique and interesting you are.
• Include a variety of perspectives. Consider inviting other people who know you well (such as friends, family members, coworkers, or teachers) to appear in interviews with you that briefly discuss what makes you special and why they think this scholarship should go to someone like you. After all, having more perspectives makes for more insight!
• Make it personal. Adding personal touches can set your essay apart from others by highlighting aspects of yourself that make you special compared to everybody else applying for this scholarship (and there are likely many!). You could also share photos or videos of yourself doing something related to the course or subject area associated with this scholarship so we can see firsthand what excites and motivates you! For example: if I were applying for this scholarship related to animation studies, I could show off my collection of figurines from Studio Ghibli movies like My Neighbor Totoro or Spirited Away! (I hope this doesn’t violate my NDA.) Keep in mind that there is no one right way to create a video essay; instead try thinking outside the box about how best to present both yourself and your ideas about why winning this scholarship would be important for both yourself and others around you!

At least one $10,000 scholarship will be awarded to a U.S. citizen and one to a non-U.S. citizen.

At least one $10,000 scholarship will be awarded to a U.S. citizen and one to a non-U.S. citizen (please specify if you are a non-U.S. citizen). This scholarship is paid in U.S. dollars and can be used to pay tuition and fees, books, purchase of computer, room and board and travel expenses directly related to educational pursuits at an accredited college/university or institute of higher learning during the 2018-2019 academic year only.

Scholarships will be dispersed directly to your school on your behalf within 6 months of the end of the contest via check or money order.

The following information will be used to determine the winners:

• Your academic record
• Your extracurricular activities, including any volunteer work you may have done
• Your essays (up to three)
• Any other supporting documentation that you wish to provide (such as letters of recommendation from a teacher, guidance counselor, or other mentor)

All scholarships will be awarded directly to your school on your behalf within six months of the end of the contest. The amounts awarded for each scholarship are listed above. Please note that we are only able to award one scholarship per applicant.

You could win one of ten $10,000 scholarships if you produce a compelling video on the topic of climate change

The ZEF scholarship is a competition in which applicants will submit a video that explains what climate change is, why it’s a problem, and who or what are the main contributors to the problem. The video should also include information about what can be done to solve the issues of climate change. One winner from inside the United States will be awarded $10,000; one winner from outside of the United States will be awarded $10,000.

Eligibility criteria:

• Applicants must be high school juniors or seniors (class of 2021 and 2020).
• Applicants who are currently enrolled in college may apply if they did not attend college prior to high school graduation.
• All videos must be submitted by 11:59 pm Pacific Standard Time on May 1, 2020.
