ZEF Scholarship Summary

The ZEF Scholarship is a fully-funded scholarship. The university of Bonn and the University of Cologne are offering scholarships at undergraduate and graduate levels for international students to study in Germany. The ZEF Scholarships will give a chance to study at one of the best universities in Germany. The ZEF Scholarship in Germany 2019 is available for Bachelors, Masters, and Ph.D. degrees.

The University of Bonn welcomes applications from outstanding international applicants for the ZEF Doctoral Scholarship Program in International Development Studies program starting October 1, 2019, or later. A great opportunity for all International Students who want to do higher studies in Germany on fully funded scholarships.

ZEF Scholarship Application Eligibility

You must be a citizen of a developing country and have completed your undergraduate degree. You should also be enrolled in a master’s or PhD program, have excellent academic records, be proficient in English, and have a letter of admission to the University of Bonn as well as letters of motivation and recommendation from one of your professors.

ZEF Scholarship Benefits and Rewards

The ZEF Scholarship is funded by the German Ministry for Education and Research (Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung, BMBF) and aims to support highly qualified foreign students and scholars – especially from developing countries – who wish to pursue a doctoral degree or conduct research at a German university.

Benefits are equal to those of the Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst (DAAD), German Academic Exchange Service, which include

  • No tuition fees
  • Monthly allowances (€762 for graduates, €1,200 for doctoral candidates)
  • Travel allowance as well as health, accident and personal liability insurance cover
  • Funds for research visits

ZEF Scholarship Application Process

The application for the ZEF Scholarship is open from November 1st to February 15th. It’s important that you read the ZEF Scholarship Guideline and fill out the application form completely. Both documents are available at the end of this page.

Send your completed application to info@zefscholarship.com together with all required documents as PDFs by February 15th (23:59 CET). Please make sure that your name is part of every document you upload.

A complete application includes:

  • The completed Application Form (cover sheet)
  • Motivation Letter explaining both why you have chosen this specific study program, and why you need financial support to be able to study abroad. Your motivation letter should not exceed one page (1,500 characters in length).
  • Copy of High School Diploma Certificate + Transcripts of Records or a provisional Graduation Certificate if applying during your last semester (of Secondary School or University Diploma)
  • One Letter of Recommendation from a teacher, educator or mentor who knows you well and can speak about your character, past achievements and future aspirations to excel in higher education and take advantage of learning opportunities abroad.
